Applegate Lake is a 988-acre (4 km² or 1.5 mi²) reservoir located approximately 39 kilometers (24 mi) from Jacksonville, Oregon, United States, and 23 km (14 mi) south of Applegate, Oregon, along Upper Applegate Road. The lake is an impoundment of the Applegate River.
The Army Corps of Engineers began construction on the Applegate Dam[2] in 1976 in an effort to protect the lower watershed from flooding. It took nearly four years to complete, and has since improved fishing and recreation in the area by providing a higher level and cooler water temperatures.[3]
